Torre di S. Maria. Detail of the church in Arcoglio.
Packed with history and faith, small and large artistic gems, the churches of the Valmalenco constitute a priceless heritage of local culture.
From the ancient parish churches, the sanctuaries, the district church and on to the churches built most recently on the Alpine pastures, each community in the Valmalenco can boast of a considerable number of sacred buildings: these represent the clearest evidence of religious development, with roots in distant times when Christianity came to the Alpine region.
These churches then followed an individual path for each community in the valley.
The churches of the Valmalenco are an important, invaluable means to rediscover the centuries-old history of human presence in the valley.
