Joana Zimmer was born in Germany in 1982 and revealed a strong passion for music from a very early age. She took lessons in choral and soloist singing, piano and guitar in Berlin, the city of her choice. She first appeared in public at the age of 15 as singer in a group which performed in the Berlin nightclubs. At the end of her studies, she became a professional singer and soon became so popular, that she was given a contract with the Universal record company, with which she published her first album entitled ‘My Innermost’ (2005). This debut album saw the collaboration of famous people, including Burt Bacharach, Andreas Carlsson (Céline Dion, Britney Spears), Gary Barlow (Take That), Dietmar Kawohl and Nik Kershaw. She rose to the top of the German charts and in other countries and came second with her single 'I believe’. Her album rose to fifth place and led to the artist being awarded two Goldene Schallplatten, the German equivalents of the Grammy Awards. German music magazines have described her as “The Céline Dion of Berlin”.

Her popularity crossed the national frontiers as her concerts were held in neighbouring countries, including France, where one of her albums was published. She has made countless public appearances on television and radio, and given countless newspaper and magazine interviews. She toured Europe with Zucchero Fornaciari and in 2011 with the American star, Michael Bolton. She has duetted with Xavier Naidoo, Boyz II Men and recently with Christof Maybach.

Her first album was followed by another three: ‘The Voice in Me’ (2006), ‘Showtime’ (2008), ‘Miss JZ’ (2010) and ‘Not Looking Back’ (2012). Joana Zimmer's artistic activity has not been restricted to just music. Instead, she has gone even further: she played herself in the German soap ‘Rote Rosen’ [Red Roses], also broadcast in Italy on Channel 5 (entitled ‘My Life’), in which she sings the title song, ‘This is My Life’. She played a main part in the ARD series ‘Verrückt nach Meer’ (Desire for the sea), posed for the Hamburg fashion designer, Julia Starp and, almost at the same time, brought out the album ‘Not Looking Back’ in New York and Los Angeles. In 2012, she took part in the RTL show ‘Let’s Dance’ (German version of 'Strictly come Dancing') together with the professional dancer, Christian Polanc and the couple came third, after a performance which moved both the public and the judges.

On 25 September 2013, Joana Zimmer once again surprised her fans by publishing her book “Blind Date: Die Welt mit meinen Augen sehen”  (“Blind Date: The world seen through my eyes”), currently being translated into Italian. On 12 March 2015, its AudioBook was published by the editor Lübbe Audio, produced and read by the author herself.

Last summer, Joana Zimmer performed in the Valtellina, first in Tirano, then in Lanzada for a limited audience. She returned at the end of the year to enhance the event of the Living Nativity Scene with a touch of magic only she can give.

Joana Zimmer is blind from birth.
