History

The "Pedü" are the traditional shoes worn in the Valmalenco. Produced mainly in the village of Lanzada, the "Pedü" were a part of the life of the inhabitants of this Alpine valley right up to the fifties.

In fact, the "Pedü" were used at home and in the open air, in the woods and Alpine pastures high up in the mountains, in rain, snow or ice. These shoes were skilfully sewn by the women in the village during the long winter evenings. They were also used to take part in the life of the local community, during the festivals and religious ceremonies. For the latter, the Pedü were made out of brightly coloured, shiny materials, decorated with ribbons and bows.
